Details on the Texas’ Solar Club 60 program

Texas homeowners now can get the benefits of a virtual rooftop solar array, including a low, fixed electricity price, for five years with TXU Energy Solar Club 60.

This unique electricity plan, which doesn’t have the cost of installing a home solar system, gives Texans membership in a shared solar club that provides the environmental benefit of up to 500 monthly kWh of electricity backed by the Texas sun. That’s the same amount of electricity that the average Texas residential solar rooftop system produces each month.

“Our solar club gives Texans yet another choice in how they access the Texas sun,” said Scott Hudson, chief operating officer for TXU Energy. “We now have one of the most diverse portfolios of solar offerings in the market, and we are proud of the benefits these plans deliver to the state, environment and consumers.”

Solar power and renewable energy credits to back the TXU Energy Solar Club will come from existing solar facilities in Texas, as well as from Luminant’s recently announced Castle Gap solar facility, which is scheduled to open in late 2016.

TXU Energy Solar Club is the latest in the company’s response to consumers’ interest in unique electricity plans with renewable energy.

In recent weeks, the company introduced TXU Energy Solar Advantage, the market’s first electricity plan that’s 100 percent backed by solar power generated in Texas. That plan offers a fixed rate for three years.

TXU Energy also has a high-efficiency solar rooftop program, an electricity plan that’s backed by 100 percent Texas wind energy and the option to put 100 percent Texas wind energy behind almost any TXU Energy plan.

“Making renewable options available and easy to access is just one of the ways we focus on our customers’ needs,” Hudson said.
