Standard Solar Builds 865-kW Rooftop System in Maryland

Standard Solar Inc., a leader in the full-service development, construction, integration, financing and installation of solar electric systems, today announced the completed installation of an 865-kW PV solar array on the custom-designed 100,000 net square foot rooftop of Knorr Brake Corporation’s (KBC) new facility in Westminster, Md.

standardFinanced through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with UGI Performance Solutions (UGIPS), the installation will be monitored and maintained by Standard Solar. The system is expected to provide up to 60 percent of the building’s energy requirements, reducing KBC’s energy costs and reinforcing their environmental stewardship.

“Our professional staff, installation experience and access to financing options are just a few reasons Knorr Brake Corporation selected us as their solar partner,” said Scott Wiater, Standard Solar President. “We turned their vision of a solar roof into a reality with no impact to the construction schedule and strongly positioned them to achieve their goal of LEED certification of the new facility. This was a fantastic project.”

As part of the company’s overall sustainability goals, the new building with its 2,882 rooftop mounted solar modules, will realize annual energy savings equal to 95,592 gallons of gasoline. KBC’s solar roof and other green building practices will allow the company to pursue LEED certification for the facility.

“The solar project allowed KBC to really drive home the fact that we are an environmental and energy conscious company. We had looked at other sustainability measures for our facility and decided that solar made the most sense for sustainability and cost-savings goals,” said David Moore, KBC’s Director of Finance.
