Sustainable CAFquiet Studless Wall System Provides Eco-Friendly Acoustic Protection

Sustainable construction materials manufacturer, Stramit USA, has introduced an interior partition system called CAFquiet™ Studless Wall System, made from their proprietary compressed agricultural fiber (CAF) board, which requires no studs to install unique, noise-insulated interior environments.

Included in the GreenBuilder Editor’s Choice Hot 50 Products for 2013,  CAFquiet walls are manufactured from agricultural waste to create a matrix of organic material that absorbs and dissipates sound. Easily installed using clips and steel tracks, the system is perfect for creating partitions in music studios, hospitals and medical clinics, schools, and offices, especially when privacy and sound insulation is required by law.

“CAFquiet features… an STC fire resistance rating north of 50 because the high density board doesn’t contain enough oxygen to support combustion,” said Tim S. Kilpatrick, Chief Executive Officer of Stramit USA, in a recent press release. “The environmental integrity is exemplary—it’s completely organic with no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or added formaldehyde, and there’s also the value of quick installation time. This addition to our line of products heralds a new level of environmental stewardship for North America.”

Stramit USA manufacturers CAFquiet and CAFboard in its Fort Worth, Texas factory to be delivered to job sites as needed. While no studs are required, when an interior partition needs to carry a structural load, modifications can be made for the use of metal studs without detracting from the benefits of the CAFquiet system.

“The concept of taking a valueless by-product from one process—in this case the wheat harvest—and creating something of value is what we refer to as ‘upcycling,’” says Phil Morley, AIA, Director of Design and LEED AP at Stramit USA. “Projects seeking LEED certification may earn a number of additional LEED points.”

Stramit technologies were developed in Europe during the 1930s, and have seen extensive use there and in Great Britain. Stramit USA has licensed this technology to provide sustainable construction materials to customers in the Americas and Caribbean. CAFboard is non-toxic, carbon-negative, mold and pest resistant, and 100% organic.
