NYSERDA looks to Faraday customer targeting platform to reduce solar installer soft costs

Faraday has been chosen to provide its customer targeting tools and complementary consulting services to contractors participating in New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) programs. The data-driven platform enables contractors to analyze key geographies and households likely to implement energy efficiency improvements. The targeting tool will first be used to support NYSERDA’s recently announced clean heating and cooling community campaigns. Eventually, Faraday plans to make it available to all installers, distributors, and manufacturers.

Faraday has a long-standing history helping clean energy companies reduce customer acquisition costs (CAC) by implementing predictive targeting strategies powered by big data and artificial intelligence. In an assessment conducted by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Faraday’s AI capabilities resulted in a CAC reduction of 11.5% for residential solar installations.

“Faraday is proud of our work helping to drive the adoption of clean energy,” said Robbie Adler, Co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Faraday. “As we’ve shown across industries, we believe AI and predictive analytics are important for any innovative organization and know that our partnership with NYSERDA will help New York contractors of all sizes improve their targeting strategies and reduce overall CAC.”

Donovan Gordon, Director, Clean Heating and Cooling for NYSERDA said, “We are pleased that Faraday will help our contractors identify households that could potentially benefit from clean heating and cooling technologies, which will help reduce costs, greenhouse gas emissions and move New York another step closer to achieving its nation-leading clean energy goals.”

Solar customers can easily share their utility data with this new Urjanet program

Wider, transparent access to utility data will be crucial for growing the solar industry, and Urjanet, already a leader in utility data aggregation, is making things even easier for solar installers with its new Urjanet Solar Quickstart program.

This suite of web-based tools streamline the link between customer utility accounts and on-demand access to residential and commercial electricity usage, cost and demand from nearly 1,000 electric utilities across 26 countries. With this powerful new toolkit, solar providers can personalize and streamline their customer experience, accelerating solar sales and scaling their business growth.

“The solar customer acquisition process is time-consuming and expensive,” says Sanjoy Malik, CEO of Urjanet. “By automating and streamlining a crucial part of the process, Urjanet can save time and money for both installers and consumers.”

What’s new here?

Customers want and expect products personalized to their needs — and they’re willing to share their information to get it. Urjanet’s Solar Quickstart program was developed with this in mind. Residential and commercial buyers can easily and securely share their utility bill history with solar providers to ensure accurate solar installation pricing and design based on their individual energy use and cost information. The Solar Quickstart program introduces two new tools:

• Urjanet Connect: a plug-and-play UI toolkit enabling solar buyers to link their utility accounts directly from the utility to the solar provider – fully automated and secure, no paper or manual processes required.

• Urjanet Console: an intuitive web portal for solar providers to monitor and access data in real time, with utility data available for instant viewing, CSV export, or PDF download.

“Urjanet is bringing a manual and cumbersome process into the 21st century. We expect this solution to transform how we engage with our customers as we aim to provide them with the best possible experience,” says George Mori, President and Co-Founder of SolAmerica.

This startup is linking solar manufacturers, installers directly to homeowners

Haha Smart

After two and half years R&D, privately-funded solar tech startup HahaSmart launched its solar O2O (online-to-offline) platform that gives homeowners the ability to design a home solar system, receive an accurate detailed price list within 2-3 minutes, and purchase a home solar system at a lower price.

Unlike most solar software companies, the HahaSmart platform is funded by and is partnering with solar manufacturers and distributors. This enables the platform to create quotes with detailed price lists based on real-time vendor product and inventory data.

Lowering small solar contractors’ operation costs and customer acquisition costs through newly available technology is the core value of the HahaSmart platform. Allowing multi-device connectivity, HahaSmart also launched a solar installer app available now in the App Store and Google Play Store.

“This was not possible until now because the solar industry was not mature enough. HahaSmart gives installers the capability to instantly prospect, sell and close leads in real-time when buying temperature is high. This is a dream come true in sales and marketing because it can increase sales volume and reduce friction,” said Terence Custodia, Marketing Manager.

Transitioning from Beta testing to being fully operational, HahaSmart’s O2O Solar Platform is already serving 298 solar installers and has designed 2,296 solar projects across the United States.

“By linking homeowners to solar manufacturers and vendors directly, we are able to cut homeowner solar system investment costs by 25%, cut payback period from 8 years in 2010 to 4 years in 2018, and achieve 15%+ IRR,” said Jack Meng, President of HahaSmart.
