WGL Energy, Conergy complete solar project in Atwater, Calif.

ConergyWGL Energy and Conergy, one of the largest downstream solar companies in the world, have completed their joint venture to bring solar energy to Merced County, Calif. The newly constructed array will provide over 1,200 MWh of energy to the City of Atwater annually, enough to power more than 100 Atwater homes each year.

“At WGL Energy, we work to construct solutions that are tailored to the communities and customers we serve,” said Sanjiv Mahan, Chief Operating Officer, WGL Energy Systems. “Working with Conergy, we have been able to bring sustainable energy answers to a growing California community, and we hope to continue to provide solar solutions to this region.”

Developed by Conergy and owned by WGL Energy, the project consists of solar panels on parking structures at the town’s civic center and community center. Ground-mount structures are located on Commerce Ave. and Federal Way. The energy that is harvested by the solar panels is converted to usable alternating current by Sunny Tripower TL-US inverters from global solar technology leader SMA America.

“Solar brings the City of Atwater a clean, local power source, which will help lower the cost of electricity for residents for years to come,” said Yann Brandt, Conergy’s VP of North America. “It has been a pleasure to work with WGL Energy and the City of Atwater to make the installation happen.”

WGL Energy now operates 15 solar arrays across the state of California, with a cumulative capacity of 7,231 kW DC, with another 9,336 kW DC either in design or construction.
