8 improvements in three-phase string inverters

CPS America string inverter
Three-phase string products have dominated the distributed generation application space while central inverters are starting to be displaced. With this transition, CPS Americas says developers have seen the
following improvements:

1. Cost per watt vs. central down from $0.25 to $0.13
2. Cost per watt with 600 Vdc to 1,000 Vdc approximately $0.18 to $0.13
3. Elimination of DC combiner boxes (included in the inverter cost)
4. Reduction of long expensive DC wiring to central inverter
5. Reduction of inverter mounting costs (no concrete, customized fencing and protection, real estate)
6. Future cost reduction path due to high volume production line economies
7. Easy spares and RMA service model – less severe downtime vs. large central
8. Conversion efficiencies up from approximately 97 to 98.5 percent
