Residential solar company Sunrun will be expanding its home solar service to South Carolina and bringing new jobs to the state. The company says it expects to generate at least 50 permanent jobs this year, ranging from sales consultants to installers to project managers and plans to open a local office and warehouse facility in Columbia.
Sunrun helped to pioneer solar as a service, making it simple and affordable for homeowners to go solar. Sunrun designs, installs, finances, insures, monitors and maintains home solar systems. Initially, Sunrun will offer South Carolina homeowners the option to purchase their solar system or finance it through a third-party loan arranged by Sunrun. Later this summer, Sunrun will also offer a lease whereby homeowners can simply pay a fixed monthly amount to Sunrun, reducing their home electric bill by 20 percent on average.
Is Standardized Solar Permitting The Next Industry Breakthrough?
“I’m pleased that South Carolina is leading the Southeast in encouraging solar adoption,” said Lynn Jurich, chief executive officer of Sunrun, “We look forward to establishing a presence in the Palmetto State and giving residents the choice to power their homes with solar while reducing their electric bills.”
Sunrun will initially offer solar to homeowners serviced by Duke Energy, in the Greenville and Spartanburg area. Over the summer, Sunrun will also be available to residents in regions serviced by SCE&G, including the Columbia, Charleston and Hilton Head areas.
With the addition of South Carolina, Sunrun is now available in 15 states. The company’s expansion into the state is largely a result of state policy-makers’ leadership and commitment to make home solar available and affordable for more residents.
“We celebrate Sunrun’s announcement and its job-creating investment for the Midlands,” said Nikki Haley, Governor of South Carolina. “Sunrun’s expansion into South Carolina is a testament to the work our state’s doing to create the most competitive environment for business development in the country.”
