LG’s new lineup of high-efficiency NeON panels on the scene at SPI

LG Electronics unveiled the all-new Mono X NeON 72 at this year’s Solar Power International, and your Solar Builder team got an up-close look. This latest addition to LG’s family of high-performing and high-quality solar products boasts a highly efficient N-type double-sided cell structure, making it the one of the most efficient and practical solar panel solutions out there.

Joseph Park, Sr. marketing manager for LG’s solar team, breaking it all down for us.

Here’s the details: The Mono X NeON 72 features a series of 72-cell modules that are ideally suited for commercial installations, making it easier to manage space when installing a large-scale system. Most notably, models LG360N2W-B3 and LG365N2W-B3 are designed to deliver high-efficiency output of up to 350 and 355 watts respectively, in a 6-foot by 3-1/4 foot inch panel, producing more power in less space. This new series builds on the success of LG’s award-winning 60-cell Mono X NeON that uses LG’s N-Type double-sided cell structure that allows the light reflected from the rear of the module to be reabsorbed, generating even more power.

“The Mono X NeON 72 represents a new level of energy efficiency, ideal for business owners who want a solar solution that performs in any environment, big or small, at anytime of the day,” said Ellen Kim, senior vice president of LG Electronics USA’s Energy Solutions business. “This new product fits perfectly within LG’s vision of creating attainable solar solutions that provide consumers long-term cost savings while still harnessing the best solar technology available.”

The headline here, according to LG, is getting a higher efficiency in any environment because the N-Type material was developed through an elaborate process control, adopting a semiconductor processing solution, which boasts higher mobility of electric charge. As a result of the improved temperature coefficient, the Mono X NeON 72 can generate more electricity on sunny days and even performs more efficiently on cloudy says, allowing one module to generate more energy per square foot, no matter what the environment.

… but more importantly, the back, which plays a big part in the higher efficiency story.

But don’t forget LG’s flagship NeON 2 and NeON 2 Black panels launched earlier this year, featuring LG’s innovative Cello technology, which utilizes circular-shaped wires to scatter light for better absorption while reducing the electrical loss and increasing power output and reliability by spreading the current with 12 thin wires rather than the traditional three busbars.

While the all-new Mono X NeON 72 is ideal for commercial use, the recently released NeON 2 and NeON 2 Black are ideal for residential. The NeON 2 Black boasts an all-black design, which makes it almost undetectable against a roof for a sleek appearance. The 320W NeON 2 boasts 6.4 kWp capacity with 20 modules (60 cells) while the capacity of a 285W p-type Mono with the same number of modules generates only 5.7 kWp.

The improved 72-cell module also boasts annual degradation has fallen from -0.7%/year to -0.6%/year. Even after 25 years, the cell guarantees 2.4%p more output than the previous NeON modules, allowing LG to extend the warranty to a full 12 years.
