MARIETTA, GA — (July 2, 2013) – SIP Supply’s Greenix Panels structural insulated panels specified for flagship LEED Platinum health center, first in state.
Heartland Health Centers (HHC) recently received two grants in recognition of the energy saving measures being implemented at the new 1300 W. Devon site, in Chicago, due to open next summer. This 9,200 square foot, green designed and LEED Platinum certified building will be the first health center in Illinois with this distinction.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is internationally recognized in more than 30 countries around the world. It provides a means of verifying that a building or a group of buildings were designed and built in a way that improves energy savings, water efficiency and indoor environmental quality and CO2 emissions reduction.
To assist in achieving LEED Platinum, an airtight building envelope was needed for credits towards earning Platinum status. The solution was using a proprietary Greenix Modular Metal Skin Panel. “With Chicago having some of the strictest building codes in the country, we had to work closely with the architect to meet all codes including structural and fire ratings and still achieve the required R-values,” says Darrell Simpson, president of SIP Supply, LLC.
According to Mr. Simpson, “We’ve seen a noticeable increase in the need for higher insulation values on commercial and government projects. Not necessarily due to code requirements, but mainly a desire to build for better energy efficiency. Lately, we find ourselves redesigning our panels to suit each unique project. This is a specialized service we’re glad to offer to our clients.”
