New Columbia Solar and Quest Renewables completed a 241.2-kW solar system in Northeast D.C.’s Ward 5. The solar carport system was constructed and installed in March 2020 and will allow the property to generate an extra $12,000 in lease payments annually while also receiving capital improvements on the property.
“At New Columbia Solar we take great pride in being able to make going solar as easy as possible for D.C. businesses much like this one. The development and installation of this system was a seamless effort thanks to close coordination with Quest Renewables, allowing for the property owner to focus on maintaining business operations,” said Michael Healy, Co-Founder and CEO of New Columbia Solar, which installed the solar carport.
With Quest Renewables’ long span canopies, New Columbia Solar was able to maximize density on a compact parking lot where the system owner wanted to maximize kWh for the SREC program in D.C.
“Together with New Columbia Solar, we were able to execute a project that uniquely met the site and customer’s needs. Working with New Columbia Solar was a strongly collaborative process, which we hope to continue in serving the D.C. area,” said Will Arnold, COO of Quest Renewables.
In addition to generating solar energy, the carport will provide a beautiful shade canopy over cars parked underneath on hot, sunny days and will protect the cars from any inclement weather. The carport features enhanced lighting to provide safety for visitors and employees of the property.
The system will produce approximately 301,500 kilowatt hours annually and will power over 40 homes per year throughout the D.C. community.
