More cool details are trickling out about JinkoSolar’s highly anticipated Tiger Pro solar PV module series. JinkoSolar’s Tiger Pro series is said to provide up to 580 Wp in 78 cell and 535Wp in 72 cell version, 20% more power than 450 Wp panel and 15% more versus 500 Wp.
How did they get there? A key component in this dramatic increase was improving the tiling ribbon and multi busbar process.
Tiling ribbon could play a role to extend the power class beyond 500Wp. Compared to the conventional interconnection method, tiling ribbon process has a seamless welding and much larger effective inner space, which translates into more performance and drive current. The round ribbon rather used is good because the cross section is quite small, and will bring an advantage for directing more bounded light back into cells.
The module size of Tiger Pro 72 cell version is pretty close to other 500Wp+ alternatives and fits exactly as the existing packaging requirement, but they have a 10-20 Watt gap in power output. Users can see there’s a big difference in power density and performance. In addition, the 500Wp+ module has some limits in terms of numbers of panels deployed in one string, because the open voltage can’t be reduced. JinkoSolar made an innovation to reduce the open voltage to as low as 49.5 Voc in Tiger Pro.
Resistant to salt corrosion
The Tiger Pro Series also received the world’s first IEC 61701 Ed. 3 (FDIS) certification for salt mist corrosion test issued by TÜV Nord AG, an independent provider of technical services for testing, inspection, certification, consultation and training.
Prolonged exposure to high salt concentrations in coastal regions and offshore environments affect the operating performance of solar modules and impact the return of the entire system. To weather these extreme conditions, solar module components must meet higher standards for salt mist corrosion and reliability under CX (extreme marine) testing conditions to maintain optimum performance for module power output.
“CX testing conditions are closest to reproducing some of the harshest real world environments and were recently applied to IEC 61701 Ed. 3 (FDIS) certification having originally been designed for automobile parts and coating. Receiving certification reflects just how resilient and reliable Tiger Pro modules are in their ability to withstand extreme salt mist corrosion in extreme environments,” commented Dr. Hao Jin, Chief Technology Officer of JinkoSolar.
