It’s no surprise the Aspen Institute ranked Stanford University’s MBA program No. 1 in corporate and social responsibility in 2011. Especially now that the school’s Knight Management Center has just been awarded the highest rating for environmental sustainability.
The U.S. Green Building Council has certified the eight-building complex that makes up the Stanford Graduate School of Business as LEED Platinum, the highest LEED rating possible. The Center opened in April 2011 and its 360,000 square feet of space is filled with some of the latest green technology.

During the LEED accreditation process, the Knight Management Center received a total of 60 points, more than the minimum 52 points required for the LEED Platinum version 2.2 rating. Green elements are featured not only in the building but throughout the campus landscape and design.
Perhaps the most noticeable design element is the use of natural daylight. By including floor-to-ceiling glass windows in classrooms, the need for electric lighting is significantly reduced. A total of 90 percent of interior work spaces are said to be illuminated by daylight. When artificial light is used in the building, it is controlled by automatic sensors that turn off when a room is emptied.
