Another Promising Pop-Up Apartment Solution

The recently introduced Cubitat is another instant apartment solution. It was designed by the Canadian architectural firm Urban Capital and Italian designer Luca Nichetto. The Cubitat cube measures 10 x 10 x 10 feet (3 x 3 x 3 m) and features a kitchen, bedroom, lounging and entertainment area, bathroom, laundry and storage space.

As with other such solutions that have been popping up recently, Cubitat is aimed at easily and quickly furnishing a space into a compact home, without the need for expensive and time-consuming renovations.

Cubitat looks like a Rubik’s cube when closed and each of its four sides has a different function when opened. One of the sides is a fully equipped kitchen that includes an oven, a built-in sink, a stove top, a dishwasher, a refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Next to the kitchen is the lounge, which features a TV, bookshelves, more storage space and a bed, so this room doubles as a bedroom. The third side of the cube opens up into a wardrobe and storage, and the fourth side opens into a laundry, with access to the bathroom, which is housed in the center of the cube.

The Cubitat is a great way to quickly furnish a new apartment or cabin. Urban Capital plans to allow customers to fully design their own module online according to their wishes and needs, which will then be prefabricated and shipped to their homes. After it arrives on site, the Cubitat can be slid or hoisted into place, hooked up to the utilities and ready to be lived in. The only problem might be the size, since it’s not possible to slide a cube measuring 10 x 10 x 10 feet through a regular sized door, or window for that matter.

The latter is something the designers will still have to work before releasing the final version. The Cubitat is currently still in the experimental concept phase, so there is still time for that. The designers have also not yet revealed how much these units will cost.
