Bullfrog Power, Canada’s leading green energy provider, and the Town of Black Diamond are partnering to bring new solar electricity to Alberta. Bullfrog Power will provide matching financing that will enable Black Diamond to install solar panels on the Oilfields Regional Arena that will generate clean, pollution-free renewable electricity.
The project consists of a 10-kW solar photovoltaic installation on the roof of the Oilfields Regional Arena. In addition to benefiting the environment, all of the savings achieved as a result of the power being generated from this project will be reinvested in the Town’s sustainability efforts and used to fund additional future renewable energy projects. In partnership with the Town, Bullfrog Power-through its Bullfrog Builds Renewable Accelerator program-provided the funding required to develop the project.
“This project represents an important milestone in the Town of Black Diamond’s commitment to being a healthy, attractive and economically viable community,” said Mayor Sharlene Brown of the Town of Black Diamond. “Due to the support of Bullfrog Power, innovative sustainability initiatives like this one will help us to achieve our vision of being a leader in municipal sustainability planning.”
The Town of Black Diamond has also recently completed renovations to The Oilfields Regional Arena to improve the facility’s energy efficiency-including installing energy efficient lighting and improving insulation. Its work on the arena complements the Town’s commitment to the Partners for Climate Protection’s Five Milestone Framework for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions, a roadmap for sustainable action developed by a network of municipal governments that have committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and acting on climate change.
