Portland, Ore. – The Green Building Initiative (GBI) applauds the City of Boise, Idaho for its inclusion of Green Globes certification in the newly released Housing Incentive Program. To accommodate rapid population growth, the City of Boise is prioritizing available housing for all. The program provides financial incentives for the development of rental housing within the Boise city limits affordable to individuals and families earning at or below 80% Area Median Income.

To be eligible for financial incentives, a variety of factors are considered, including project location and proximity to activity centers, public transit, bike lanes and sidewalks, diversification of housing types, serving a range of household incomes, project compatibility with the dimensional standards of the underlying zoning and/or has an approved entitlement, design to include quality amenities, and sufficient parking, and sustainability initiatives including adaptive reuse of existing structures, green construction practices and/or sustainable building certification, including Green Globes.

“GBI is excited to continue working with project teams and building owners to provide exceptional education and opportunities to be recognized for sustainable design, construction, and operation of Multifamily projects in the City of Boise,” said Vicki Worden, GBI President & CEO. “The adaptability of the Green Globes system is proven to be effective and efficient for certifying multifamily properties.

GBI’s reputation for excellence has been earned by applying a tailored approach to certification with third-party assessors that specialize in multifamily portfolios. To date, GBI has certified approximately 137 million square feet (over 100,000 units) of multifamily space, including workforce and affordable housing.

GBI is pleased to offer education and support to interested A/E/C firms, sustainability consultants, and building owners pursuing Green Globes certification. Please contact info@thegbi.org to schedule a meeting or presentation.
