Photo credit: GMO Free Kaua'i\"><\/p>\n<p>Kauai has a <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2013\/10\/17\/hawaiis-kauai-disclosure-gmos-pesticides\/\" target=\"_blank\">ground-breaking new law<\/a> that mandates disclosure of pesticide use and the presence of genetically modified crops&nbsp;by agrochemical companies on the Hawaiian island, and establishes buffer zones between these operations and schools, hospitals and residential areas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kauai County Council on Saturday voted 5-2 to override a <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2013\/11\/01\/kauai-mayor-vetoes-genetically-modified-crops-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\">mayoral veto<\/a> of the bill, which council had approved, 6-1, in October. Photo credit: GMO Free Kaua&#8217;i[\/caption]\n<p>The measure applies to farms that use more than five pounds or 15 gallons of restricted-use pesticides annually.
