For many, a major highlight of last week’s Greenbuild 2013<\/a> conference in Philadelphia was seeing an up-close and personal keynote from Hillary Clinton, former U.S. secretary of state – and arguably the most likely contender for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination.<\/p>\n

Despite criticizing the nation’s political atmosphere, saying “we have to overcome the divisiveness that has marked our political life and is tearing at the fabric of our society,” Clinton predicted that Washington will see a “course correction” if – a big iffff<\/em> – voters elect more lawmakers willing to compromise.<\/p>\n

“Whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat, it’s important not to vote for people who proudly say they will never compromise,” she said.<\/p>\n

Soon after taking the stage at Temple University’s Licouras Center, Clinton’s keynote touched on the explosive growth of what she referred to as the “green construction” movement. “It’s all about building the kind of future we want to leave to the next generation,” she said.<\/p>\n

Clinton addressed everything from the topical healthy building movement<\/a> and growing sophistication of capital improvement investments to the “greening” of the White House during her tenure as First Lady, which she says led to annual energy and water savings of roughly $300,000 per year. <\/p>\n
