Photo credit: Nissan\"><\/p>\n<p>Though fewer than 1 percent of the U.S. population drives an <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2013\/12\/10\/11-evs-cheaper-new-car\/\" target=\"_blank\">electric vehicle<\/a> (EV) or plug-in hybrid, four out of ever 10 households&nbsp;could begin doing so with&nbsp;little or no change to their driving habits and vehicle needs.<\/p>\n<p>That data comes from the&nbsp;Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) and Consumers Union, which issued a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/clean_vehicles\/smart-transportation-solutions\/advanced-vehicle-technologies\/electric-cars\/bev-phev-range-electric-car.html\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>&nbsp;Wednesday based on its polling of 1,004 people earlier this fall. Basic needs for an EV or plug-in hybrid are parking and a plug, which 56 percent of the respondents said they have.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Drivers may have preconceptions about whether electric vehicles can meet their driving needs and habits, and this survey shows that for many, they can,&rdquo; said&nbsp;Josh Goldman, policy analyst for the UCS Clean Vehicles Program.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n[caption id=\"attachment_315087\" align=\"alignnone\" width=\"500\"]<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/assets\/images\/cv\/EV-Survey-Infographic-fullsize.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Graphic credit: Union of Concerned Scientists and the Consumers Union\" src=\"http:\/\/files.cdn.ecowatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/ev4.jpeg\" width=\"500\" height=\"636\"><\/a> Graphic credit: Union of Concerned Scientists and the Consumers Union[\/caption]\n<p>One misconception about EVs, the survey found, was the idea that people would need to cut down on driving to preserve their charges.
