{"id":23925,"date":"2014-03-31T15:31:08","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T15:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/?p=328718"},"modified":"2014-03-31T15:31:08","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T15:31:08","slug":"elon-musk-tells-60-minutes-about-how-tesla-can-change-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/elon-musk-tells-60-minutes-about-how-tesla-can-change-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk Tells \u201860 Minutes\u2019 About How Tesla Can Change the World"},"content":{"rendered":null,"protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/files.cdn.ecowatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/60minz-150x150.jpeg\" alt=\"60minz\"><\/p>\n<p>You probably haven&#8217;t seen <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/02\/13\/electric-vehicles-vs-hybrids\/\" target=\"_blank\">electric vehicles<\/a> (EV) get the type of primetime exposure they received Sunday evening on network television, but if Elon Musk has his way, they&#8217;ll soon become an undeniable part of our infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Musk, the CEO of EV maker, Tesla, was the subject of a <em>60 Minutes<\/em> feature that brought his ideology to a large-scale viewing audience that he hopes is sick of high-emissions vehicles and steep gas prices.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Though many like show correspondent&nbsp;Scott Pelley believe that Musk could impact cars the way Steve Jobs changed the face of computing and phone communication, Musk revealed that he initially thought the company would fail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If something&#8217;s important enough, you should try,&#8221; he said, &#8220;even if the probably outcome is failure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The piece also touched on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spacex.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a>, Musk&#8217;s firm that stands as the&nbsp;only private company to ever return a spacecraft from low-Earth&nbsp;orbit. He&#8217;s also chairman of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarcity.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">SolarCity<\/a>, which believes can help provide solar energy for the national network of Tesla EV chargers his company is creating.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can drive free, forever, on pure sunlight,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Even if there&#8217;s a zombie apocalypse and the grid breaks down, you&#8217;ll still be able to charge your car.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The luxury EV already gets about 250 miles on a charge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m interested in things that change the world or that affect the future,&#8221; Musk said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Musk spoke to CBS about the <a href=\"http:\/\/ecowatch.com\/2014\/02\/05\/teslas-milestone-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\">journey from New York to Los Angeles that Tesla personnel took two Model S sedans on<\/a>, using only supercharger stations.
