In a series of experiments, the scientists created spherical silicon particles about 10 nanometers in diameter. When combined with water, these particles reacted to form silicic acid (a nontoxic byproduct) and hydrogen — a potential source of energy for fuel cells.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[57],"tags":[609,483,2903,8210,3056,8211,8212,8220,8213,8214,3062,8215,8216,2906,8217,8218,3008,222,3001,8219],"class_list":["post-7527","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-leed-news","tag-alternative-fuels","tag-clean-energy","tag-energy","tag-folarin-erogbogbo","tag-green-technology","tag-institute-for-lasers","tag-just-add-water-how-scientists-are-using-silicon-to-produce-hydrogen-on-demand","tag-just-add-water-scientists-using-silicon-to-produce-hydrogen-on-demand","tag-korea-university-in-south-korea","tag-mark-t-swihart","tag-materials","tag-nanjing-university-in-china","tag-nano-letters","tag-news","tag-paras-prasad","tag-photonics-and-biophotonics","tag-press-releases","tag-renewable-energy","tag-sustainable-business","tag-university-of-buffalo"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7527","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7527"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7527\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7527"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7527"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/leedpoints.com\/green-building-blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7527"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
