Rooftop solar mounting specialist K2 Systems is launching the K2 Edge — a simplified system that has an eye toward both aesthetics and installation ease. The K2 Edge is the result “of years of research, development, and collaboration with industry experts,” the K2 team tells us.

“We are excited to introduce the K2 Edge to the market,” said Nich Pak, Residential Product Manager at K2 Systems. “We believe it will provide immense value to our customers by simplifying installation processes and enhancing the overall look of their solar arrays.”

K2 Systems has been developing rooftop solar solutions since 2004. They have over 20 years of experience as roof top specialists, with over 32 GW of product installed worldwide, and 420 employees working mounting systems for roofs at 12 locations across the world.

K2 Edge can be installed in both new and retrofit solar systems. Its four-part construction includes the K2 Edge Kit, Dark Plastic, Connector, and Corner:

Installation is fairly simple. The K2 Edge bracket that attaches to the solar module frame is installed using a 13mm socket like the rest of K2’s solar mounting components. The remaining K2 Edge pieces use a tool-less installation process. The Corners are universal, and the K2 Edge can be easily customized, cut, and installed in various configurations.

The K2 Edge has a black matte finish for a sleek look for solar installations. It is made from scratch-resistant materials to withstand the rigors of outdoor environments.

Browse more rooftop solar mounting innovations in Solar Builder’s 2024 Rooftop Solar BOS Buyer’s Guide.  In 2024, you’ll notice a few trends …

  • The top solar mounting providers have all added conduit mounting products.
  • Products are getting slimmer / more streamlined. Many of the updated product lines you see below involve  fewer parts and less material, without compromising strength
  • Many mounts now use butyl rubber for waterproofing. Those not using butyl are also introducing new trademarked systems to achieve a better seal.
  • Rail-less and direct-to-deck / above the single options continue to rise in popularity.

All of those innovations are also welcome considering: 1) the  general lack of certified / qualified solar installers, 2) the profitability issues facing solar installers with less demand. Products that allow for faster installs + a reduced risk of installation errors is definitely needed.
