Polyurethane Panels SIPs and LEED Credits for Green Building Programs

Energy Star – The Energy Star program aims to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption of electronics, appliances, and even homes. According to the EPA, homes account for 15% of energy consumption nationwide. New homes that demonstrate a certain level of energy saving improvements earn the Energy Star label. Building with SIPs substantially cut home energy consumption, making it easy to reach Energy Star qualifications;

  • An Energy Star labeled home qualifies up to 34 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) points under the Energy and Atmosphere category.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) – Greenix Polyurethane Panels SIPs can earn points towards LEED certification for a project.

LEED-H (Pilot Program For Homes)
Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Category: EA 2.2 Enhanced Insulation Credit
Materials & Resources (MR) Category: MR 1.3 Material Efficient Framing Credit   MR 2.2 Regional Materials
LEED-NC (New Construction) and LEED-CS (Core & Shell)
Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Category: EA Credit 1, Optimize Energy Performance
Materials & Resources (MR) Category: MR Credit 5.1, 5.2, Regional Materials

Note:  LEED programs are an evolving process. At the time this was written, the use of SIPs contribute to LEED certification in the specified areas. In future, these credits may change, (i.e., further inclusion of additional credit points, etc.) It is recommended checking with the U.S. Green Building Council’s website to ensure you have the latest rating system report.  Choose Polyurethane Panels SIPs and LEED Credits
