Güte, a Canadian home builder recently unveiled a unique tiny home, the design of which was inspired by shepherds’ huts of the past. Their creation is a prefabricated hut that rests on a trailer and can be used as a tiny home, office space, or guest room. It has the option to connect it to a power source, but it can also function off-the-grid, exactly like the shepherd’s huts of old did.
The width of the Shepherd Hut is fixed at 7 feet (2.1 m) but the customer can choose the length. According to Güte, the recommended length is either 12 feet (3.6 m), or 16 feet (4.8 m) for those who want a bit more space. The hut rests on a trailer bed with cast iron wheels, which is in keeping with the old style look of this tiny home.
Inside the hut, there is enough space for a small kitchen, a folding hardwood desk, a sofa bed, bunk beds and a bookcase. Future owners can also opt for a hand-pumped solid brass sink, and a brass Welsh miner’s lamp. The home is also created to be lived in during the cold Canadian winters, so it should be suitable for year round living in any climate. It also features the options of installing a hardwood, or steel chassis, wooden siding and floor, and a cedar, or corrugated steel roof.
