This week, the world’s top solar manufacturer by volume, LONGi, unveiled the next step in its product line: Hi-MO 6. This is LONGi’s first module designed exclusively for the global distributed consumer market, emphasizing efficiency, safety and aesthetics via four series — Explorer, Scientist, Guardian, and Artist—all in the standard M10 size (182mm) and available in 72C, 66C, 60C, and 54C types. Here’s what we know about them thus far:
Introducing higher-power HPBC
HPBC (Hybrid Passivated Back Contact) is a new generation of high-efficiency solar cell technology that enables a busbar-free front-side design. LONGi says HPBC adjusts the cell’s internal structure to improve light absorption and photoelectric conversion capabilities to increase output power.
HPBC cell technology can generate a greater volume of energy under high-temperature and low-irradiation conditions and also sport better power degradation performance, demonstrating an average power output increase of up to 10 percent over PERC products in typical scenarios, according to LONGi’s global power generation simulations.
Increased safety
Residential and commercial solar applications require a tad more scrutiny in terms of safety risks. This is why the Hi-MO 6 employs back contact soldering technology with a one-line soldering structure rather than the traditional Z-shaped structure. LONGi says this enhances the module’s resistance to cracking.
For applications in sectors with increased security and intelligence needs, the Hi-MO 6 also offers the option of further enhancing safety and optimization by pre-installing the Smart Optimizer. In the event of a PV system failure or module shading, the back-end system may be remotely monitored and optimized in real time using feedback from the Smart Optimizer’s ‘digital brain’, ensuring power plant safety while maximizing system power output.
Aesthetic options
Distributed solar is also often a book judged by its cover. Hi-MO 6 is LONGi’s most aesthetically appealing module line, with a minimalist, industrial design, plus some modules with pizzazz in its Artist series (above).
“LONGi has driven industry development throughout the years with high-quality technical innovation. The flagship Hi-MO series modules have contributed to upgrading global energy structure. The Hi-MO 6 is another solid step toward promoting energy equity,” commented LONGi’s Vice President Dennis She.
