In Italy, the Rimini Fiera Group offers 35 annual and biennial exhibitions, 11 of which attract vendors from all over the world. Now, a number of those expos will shrink their carbon footprint via solar energy.
United Solar reports that over 34,000 of its Uni-Solar brand photovoltaic modules will be mounted atop the 16 permanent pavilions of the Fiera di Rimini Trade Fair that cover close to 100,000 square meters (328,000 square feet) of exhibition area. As part of the solar power installation, the existing aluminum corrugate roofing on these pavilions will be replaced with Uni-Solar laminates factory bonded onto the Riverclack Elios aluminum standing seam metal pans provided by United Solar’s business alliance partner, Iscom.

The result will be a 4.33-megawatt-capacity solar power installation capable of producing more than 5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity a year. The system is expected to avoid the production of 3,500 tons of greenhouse gases per year, the equivalent of supplying over 1,500 American households with electricity.
To put the size of the installation in perspective, consider the fact that this project is actually larger than the solar power array that recently came online at Edwards Air Force Base, which was designed to help the massive Air Force base offset its massive electricity bills during Southern California’s peak electricity season (i.e., from June through September).
The Rimini Fiera solar project installation will be owned and developed by Green Utility, with ACEA Group, an Italian public utility company, providing the engineering, procurement and construction services for the project.
