Suniva Modules Power 1.9-MW Solar Array at Water Reclamation Facility

Suniva Inc. today announces it is powering the 1.9-MW solar array at the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility (SCWRF) in Cary, N.C. This is one of several installations in Suniva’s growing water reclamation portfolio.

sunivaThe Suniva array, consisting of the premier OPTimus module line, delivers more power while using fewer modules due to their high power density. Developer and owner, FLS Energy, will maintain the system while leasing the land from the city of Cary. The solar project was made possible at no cost to ratepayers through a successful public-private partnership with Duke Energy and FLS Energy.

Operating for nearly six months, the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility has been harnessing energy from the sun while powering the surrounding community. The facility, staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days/week is committed to serving the community by achieving high standards for wastewater treatment and being a good neighbor to the communities located adjacent to the plant. The energy generated from the sizable solar system goes to the grid to service the treatment plant and surrounding homes.

“Our partnership with FLS Energy has helped North Carolina be a sustainability leader, dating back to our first solar project in Canton, N.C., in 2009,” said Matt Card, vice president of global sales and marketing of Suniva. “It’s nice for us to see water reclamation facilities using energy from the sun to clean our neighbor’s drinking water – it is a good reminder that Mother Nature works in harmony.”
