Australia's Macarthur Wind Farm

Southern Hemisphere’s Largest Wind Farm Opens in Australia

The $1 billion AUD, 420-megawatt Macarthur Wind Farm is now feeding Australia’s electric grid. Owned by AGL Energy and Meridian Energy, the farm features the the Vestas V112-3.0 MW wind turbine. More than 50% of the cumulative wind power capacity in Australia has been installed by Vestas.

Smart Homes and Smart Cities Market May Double by 2017

A new report from GBI Research, “Smart Cities Market to 2017 – Smart Security Segment to Flourish as Interoperability Standards and Public Private Partnerships Promote Growth,” estimates that the smart homes market almost double from 2012 to 2017.

California Power Company to Provide Customers with Green Energy Options

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has made inroads on enhancing a proposed “Green Option” to allow customers to support 100% renewable energy through solar projects within the PG&E service area, while wind energy production levels in California reached an all-time high of 4,196 megawatts (MW) on April 7, 2013.

Germany Sets New Solar Power Record

A new domestic and world record was set by Germany on April 15, 2013 with its 22.68 GW peak solar power output.

New U.S. Solar Jobs Map Released

The Solar Foundation has just released a map of the United States that shows detailed information about the estimated 119,000 jobs in America’s solar industry. Did you know that Jetson Green has a Greener Jobs listing? You can subscribe to job alerts or post a green job.

Sweden Wants to be World’s First Oil-Free Country

Since the 1970s oil crisis, Sweden has been phasing out oil in favor of alternative energy sources, going from 77% in 1970 to 32% in 2003. Mona Sahlin, former minister of Sustainable Development, expects that Sweden’s “dependency on oil should be broken by 2020.”

French Winery to Capture Carbon from Fermentation for Toothpaste

Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux wants to be more green. They will be capturing carbon emissions from the fermentation process and turning it into bicarbonate of soda to be sold to pharmaceutical companies who will use it in toothpaste.

Panasonic Announces Solar Lantern Project

In celebration of its 100th anniversary of the founding of Panasonic, the company is donating 100,000 solar lanterns to people without electricity in areas such as Myanmar, India, and Kenya.
