Japan to Get 111 MW PV Solar Facility

Softbank, a telecommunications company in Japan, has plans to develop a solar power facility in Tomakomai, Hokkaido prefecture, Japan that will have a capacity of 111 MW, 79 of which will be connected to grids belonging to Hokkaido Electric Power under a purchase agreement. The plant is expected to be operational within two years.

Walney Wind Farm Aims to be Largest Offshore Wind Farm in the World

When it opened last summer with a 367 MW capacity, the Walney Wind Farm was the largest offshore wind farm in the world, but recently lost that status to the London Array. Now applying for expansions. the farm is expected to triple in size for a capacity in excess of 1.1 GW when it is completed by 2018.

Italian Firm to Build 32 MW PV Solar Park in Greece

The Italy-based company, Energy Resources Ltd, has signed on to build solar power park in Greece, to be completed this year. Funding for the €50 million project is being sought from the China Development Bank and other investors.

Solar Investment Opportunities as Low as $25 Now Available in California

Mosaic, a firm based in Oakland, California, has launched an online investing platform that allows investors to put as little as $25 towards solar energy projects in California, having already obtained funding of more than $1.1 million for eleven solar projects with expected rates of return around 4.5 percent.

Study Shows Energy-Efficient Homeowners Default on Mortgages Less Often

A study entitled Home Energy Efficiency and Mortgage Risks from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) Center for Community Capital and the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), shows that owners of homes with Energy Star ratings default on mortgage payments 32 percent less often, with default risk decreasing on more efficient homes.

D.C. Government Agencies to be 100% Renewable Energy Powered

Government agencies located in Washington, D.C. will be utilizing wind power for 100% of its electricity needs, purchasing all of its power from a Northern Virginia wind farm owned by Washington Gas Energy  Services, who estimates it as equivalent to reducing gasoline consumption by 33 million gallons or taking 61,000 cars off the roads.
