W&H Properties’ 1333 Broadway Earns 2011 Energy Star Award

On the heels of a recent Malkin-led retrofit program, the EPA and the Department of Energy have awarded a 2011 Energy Star Award to 1333 Broadway. Located just north of Macy’s between 34th and 35th Streets, 1333 Broadway dates from 1915 and was formerly a garment manufacturing facility.

Originally designed by architects Clinton & Russell, the 12-story, 365,000-square-foot tower features 30,000-square-foot floor plates and is owned by W&H Properties. Malkin Properties, which supervises W&H’s portfolio, completed a $71 million upgrade program at the property in 2009. The renovation included a new lobby, elevators, and energy-efficient glazing, renovated restrooms, and upgraded electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and security systems. “Sustainability is one of the hallmarks of W&H Properties,” said Mr. Malkin in a press release. “Already three W&H buildings have the Energy Star certification, and we expect the others to achieve it in the near future.”

Recently, New York City-based green building consulting firm CodeGreen Solutions earned a Platinum rating under LEED for Commercial Interiors for its new headquarters space in the building, where availabilities include a partial floor of 14,000 square feet and a retail space with up to 62,000 square feet on the ground, second and lower levels and over 500 square feet of street frontage (pictured).
