Green Building Initiative Announces New Member

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) announced its newest corporate member, Duro-Last® Roofing, Inc. the largest U.S. manufacturer of prefabricated roofing systems.

“Duro-Last is a significant US manufacturer of high-quality roofing products and a true American entrepreneurial success story. GBI is on the move, and we’re pleased to have Duro-Last as a corporate member to contribute to our rapid growth” said GBI Director of Marketing Shaina Weinstein.

One of Duro-Last’s most energy efficient qualities is reflectivity – by reflecting up to 86% of the sun’s energy, Duro-Last’s white membranes can greatly reduce energy consumption and costs. Duro-Last recently published a white paper analyzing the impact of cool roofs on peak energy demand charges that showed the peak demand and net energy savings offered by cool roofs are available for both new and existing conditioned buildings in all climates within North America.

Duro-Last’s commitment to sustainability extends through their products’ entire life cycle. Last month the company published an environmental product declaration (EPD) for its 40, 50 and 60 mil single-ply PVC roofing membranes – the first product specific PVC EPD in the North American roofing industry. Certified by global public health organization NSF International, the Duro-Last EPD reports environmental impact data which assists building contractors, architects and designers in making more informed purchasing decisions.

“Duro-Last is honored to be a part of GBI,” said Jason Tunney, Executive Vice President and Legal Counsel of Duro-Last. “With their science-based, life cycle approach to building design, the GBI closely aligns with our mission and goals.”
