Over the past few weeks, Lighthouse Solar has been installing an 855-kW ballasted roof-mounted system on the headquarters of Nice-Pak Products Inc./Professional Disposables International Inc. in Orangeburg, N.Y. The companies produce leading edge wet wipe products for personal hygiene, cleansing, disinfecting and sanitizing needs in the consumer, healthcare and commercial marketplaces. The companies’ focus on health and wellness is a natural fit with clean sources of energy.
3,419 250-W polycrystalline panels will be strung together in this project, covering more than 160,000 sq ft of normally underutilized roof space. The system is expected to generate around 1-million kilowatt-hours of energy per year – enough to meet 15% of the building’s electrical operating costs. That’s also enough energy to provide electricity for 97 homes or the equivalent to preventing the carbon-dioxide emissions from burning of 660,000lbs of coal.
