VEIC Names Karen Glitman as New Director of Policy and Public Affairs

The Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC) today announced that Karen Glitman has been named the organization’s new Director of Policy and Public Affairs. Glitman has served as VEIC’s Director of Transportation Efficiency since 2011.h

In her new role, Glitman will lead the organization’s work designing and advancing cutting-edge policy related to sustainable energy. She will succeed Scudder Parker, who will continue to play an important senior advisory role at VEIC on policy issues.

In announcing the appointment, VEIC Executive Director Scott Johnstone said, “I’m extremely pleased that Karen will now lead our policy efforts. She is a big thinker with a keen eye for the practical application of policy results. A great example of this has been the work she’s been doing for the last four years to introduce the nation to the concept of applying energy efficiency principles to the transportation sector. We are excited to have her apply her skills across our organization.”

Johnstone also expressed deep appreciation for the work of Scudder Parker, and is excited that he will maintain a role at VEIC, saying, “Scudder is a respected voice across the country and he has used that voice to share Vermont’s policy framework as well as bring lessons from afar back home.  His work has always been highly regarded and we all look forward to his continued contributions at VEIC.”

Karen Glitman said, “I’m honored to have been named to this position and eager to continue the nationally-recognized work we do here at VEIC. We have an outstanding team and I look forward to working with my colleagues to create and support policies that work to reduce the economic and environmental cost of all energy uses; electric, thermal and transportation through efficiency and renewables and to implement them.”

Since 2011 Glitman has been responsible for strategic vision for transportation efficiency efforts and direction at VEIC. Prior to that, she served as the director of the University Transportation Center at the University of Vermont and prior to that as the Deputy Secretary to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

She holds a B.A. from the University of Vermont in Political Science and is a member of the Vermont Bar.
