Dominion Virginia Power to Install 800-kW Solar System on Two Roofs

Dominion Virginia Power will install more than 3,000 solar panels capable of generating more than 800 kW of electricity – enough to power nearly 200 homes – at the Prologis Concorde Distribution Center in Sterling, Va. The panels will be installed on the rooftops of two adjacent buildings on its campus and will cover nearly 102,000 square feet.

Prologis Inc., a leader in industrial real estate, is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations and development activity in ways that benefit its customers, business and the communities where it operates.

“Prologis is dedicated to leading the industry in sustainable development, renewable energy and energy efficiency,” said Drew Torbin, vice president of renewable energy for Prologis. “This project with Dominion Virginia Power supports our efforts to improve the efficiency and profitability of our partners in the region.”

This installation for Prologis is the first Northern Virginia project in Dominion’s Solar Partnership Program , where the company leases rooftop or ground space at commercial, industrial or public facilities for installation of solar panels. All the electricity generated in the $2.5 million project will flow to the electric grid for use by Dominion Virginia Power customers. Construction is scheduled to begin in July. The panels are expected to be fully installed and operational in October.
